Abstract

A method of plucking poultry which is a modification of that described in Specification 603,639 comprises suspending the carcases from travelling means to pass them through a defeathering machine or machines which are driven first in one direction and then in the other to pluck the carcases by whipping them against and with the lay of the feathers respectively, and anchoring both ends of the carcases on travelling means when necessary to counteract the tossing action of the defeathering means. In practice the carcases are suspended by their legs from a conveyer, the heads being secured to a lower conveyer when the machines act to whip the feathers upwardly.
