[Class 59] In a grinding-machine wherein a rotor carrying resiliently loaded longitudinally extending grinding bars rotates within a fixed cylinder lined with longitudinal grinding bars, the rotor bars are capable of radial movement being urged radially outwards by resiliently loaded flexible bands which bear thereon. As shown. Figs. 1, 2, a rotor 14 having on its periphery open-ended radial slots 15 for the reception of skewed grinding bars 16 rotates in the jacketed cylinder 10, the inner surface of which is lined with grinding bars 12. Skewed plates 17 for the direction of material being ground into the openings between the rotor bars 16 are carried by the rotor at the rear of each group of bars. Spring steel pressure bands 18, each formed of semi-circular segments, bear on the inner faces of the rotating bars 16<SP>1</SP>, the end of each segment being secured by hinge members 19, 19a, Fig. 3, and pivot pins 20 to brackets 21, the two upper brackets straddling the cross bar 22, the two lower ones straddling cross bar 23, both bars passing through slots in the rotor. Rods 24, screw threaded at their inner ends 26, and sliding in guide lugs 25 of brackets secured to the rotor 14 are pivotally connected to the cross bars 22, 23, any radial adjustment of the rods by means of nuts bearing on the inner lugs 25 being transmitted to the grinding bars 16 through the cross bars 22, 23, brackets 21 and pressure bands 18. In a modification, Fig. 6, the radial movement of the rods 24 is effected by the links 27 which are connected to an internally threaded member 28 threaded on a spindle 29 which, on engagement of the pins 32 and disc holes 31, is rotated by the handwheel 35. In a further embodiment the nut adjustment 25, 26 is retained as a device for locking the rods in any desired position, but the rods are moved radially by hydraulic pressure acting upon two opposed rams located in a cylinder mounted axially within the hub of the rotor 14.
