Abstract
639,686. Frequency and amplitude modulation receivers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 11, 1947, No. 32692. Convention date, Aug. 30, 1945. [Class 40 (v)] In radio receivers adapted for reception of either frequency-modulated or amplitude-modulated waves, a tuning indicator, fed from the I.F. stages through a narrow pass-band filter and rectifier, is available for precision tuning whether F.M. or A.M. signals are being received. As shown, the I.F. stage 5 feeds F.M. waves to a limiter 6, discriminator-detector 7 and audio amplifier 8. The I.F. wave is also fed to a pentode amplifier 17 which has its anode tapped on the primary coil 28 of a narrow pass-band filter constituted by coupled circuits 27, 28; 29, 30. The secondary coil 29 is tapped to a diode detector 31 with its cathode connected through a smoothing circuit 34, 35 to a tuning indicator 13 which may be of the magic eye type, and indicates accuracy of tuning whether the received waves are of the F.M. or A.M. type. When the received waves are of the latter type, the modulation signal is developed across the diode resistor 32 and is fed through the switch S to the input of the audio amplifier 8.
