[Class 38 (v)] The live rail of an electrically-propelled vehicle is divided into sections 1 ... 7, each section being in series with a fuse 11 ... 17, each fuse shunting a relay 18 ... 24 so that a short-circuit between rails 1 ... 7 and 40 blows the fuse to actuate the appropriate relay and thus indicate which section is at fault. If the vehicle is the cause of the short-circuit, this is indicated by the sequential actuation of the relays. The relays close the circuit of a common alarm bell 25.
