Abstract
639,208. Bowl-type scrapers. LETOURNEAU, Inc., R. G. April 28, 1947, No. 11364. Convention date, April 27, 1946. [Class 68 (i)] An earth-working scraper comprises a bowl supported adjacent its rear end by wheels, and a draft yoke straddling the bowl from the front, the rear ends of the legs of the yoke being pivotallyconnected to the bowl rearwardly of its forward end to permit vertical adjustment of the bowl, such vertical adjustment being effected by means of a reversible power winch unit including a prime mover mounted on the yoke and connected to the bowl adjacent its forward end by a lift cable system. The yoke 2 comprises side beams 3 pivoted to the bowl 1 at 4 and connected by a cross-beam 5 having a projecting neck 6 rigidly connected to a power steering unit 7 mounted on the deck of a two-wheeled tractor. The bowl 1 is supported at its rear end by wheels 11 mounted on a frame structure 10 rigid with the bowl. Within the bowl is a longitudinally movable gate 12 comprising a blade 13 riding on the bottom of the bowl, the gate being connected by a push-bar assembly or frame 15 to power actuating mechanism. The bowl comprises a blade base 16 on which is mounted a transverse cutting or digging blade 17, side plates 18 secured to posts 19 inter-connected by a top back beam 20, top side beams 21, intermediate posts 22 (not shown), stiffening beams forming partof forwardly projecting bowl lifting arms 25, and arcuate stiffening ribs 26. A verticallyswingable apron 27, including side arms pivoted to the side plates 18 and double-walled side wings 30, is operated by a reversible electric winch unit 41 through a cable 43 passing over sheaves 44 and connected to the apron at 46. A second winch unit 32 comprises a double cable drum 33 to which are secured both ends of a cable, reeved around sheaves 37 on the arms 25, fixed sheaves 38 on the beam 5 and directionchanging sheaves 36, 40. The winch units each comprise a reduction gear-box and a normally set automatic brake.
