Abstract

639,002. Feeding wind-on spools in succession. MASCHINENFABRIK SCHWETTER AKT.-GES. June 3, 1947, No. 14669. Convention date, June 5, 1946. [Class 117] [Also in Group XXX] In apparatus for feeding wind-on spools in succession from a loose mass in a delivery drum to a conveyer for transporting the spools to the point where they are to be used, there is provided between the delivery drum and the transporting device a distributing device with a compensating magazine which compensates for the difference between the rate of withdrawal and delivery of the spools, means being provided for automatically stopping the supply of spools to the compensating magazine if this latter is full except for one hole, in order to avoid overloading of the magazine. As shown, the spools are thrown pell-mell into a drum 2 (Fig. 1) rotating about axis 3 and are shoved by a damming beam 22, arranged close over the drum bottom, against the drum jacket 4 where they are seized either at the point or at the head by rails 5 protruding from the jacket 4 and are thereupon shoved along a guide rail 24 following an upward helicoidal course until they come to a rolling surface 18 down which the spools roll head downwards onto a conveyer belt 12 by which they are fed one at a time to the guide funnel 61 (Fig. 8) of the distributer, A stripper is provided near the rolling surface 18 and oscillates transversely to the path of the spools so as to allow only one spool at a time to be fed to surface 18, the other spools being thrown back into the drum. A movable plate 26 is provided on the surface 18 to keep back the spools on the upper part of the surface 18 until they reach the top thereof and the plate is lifted by mechanism driven from' the shaft 6 driving the drum 2 to release the spools and allow them to roll down the surface. The distributer comprises the guide funnel 61, a slide member 65, a segment 74 and a spool magazine 78 all rotatably seated round the same axis shaft 60 carried by plates 59 and 46. Guide funnel 61 is provided with a downwardly projecting arm 62 to which, is fitted a locking pawl 82 which under the pressure of a spiral spring 88 engages locking teeth 81 on the wall of the central bore of the magazine 78. The arm 62 also has a vertical slot 63 in which is located a shoulder 68 of the slide 65 while the slide itself is provided with a slanting slot 67 into which engages a pin 76 fixed to the hub of the segment 74 so that up and down movement of the slide 65 produced by grooved wheel 72 secured to continuously rotating shaft 48 causes; firstly, clockwise rotation of the segment 74 by itself, which when a hole 79 in the magazine has been filled by a spool, allows the spool to drop on to plate 59 and on return. movement, the segment engages this spool and causes the guide funnel 61 to rotate one stop relative to the magazine so that the next spool can drop into the next empty hole 79 of the magazine. The guide funnel 61 is provided with a stop 64 which when the magazine has its full complement of spools engages a pin 51 and trips a pawl which disengages the bevel wheel 49 from shaft 48 and interrupts the drive to the conveyer belt 12 (Fig. 1) to stop the feed of spools to the distributer 61. The spools are ejected out of the magazine into containers 93 passing in succession below the hole 90 in plate 59, a feeler rod 97 moved to and fro by a cam disc 99 secured to shaft 48 testing each container 93 prior to it taking up its loading position and in the case of an empty container, the rod 97 falls backward to such an extent that it can engage a locking tooth 103 provided on the outside of the magazine 78 and rotates the magazine by one step thus causing the spool contained in the magazine hole then over hole 90 in plate 59 to drop into the container. The magazine is prevented from rotating in the reverse direction when released by the rod 97, by a pawl 84 of such shape that under the action of a spring 86 it also exerts a pressure on the back side of the locking tooth 83 of the magazine so that the magazine can only be rotated by the feeler rod 97 and by virtue of spring 88 rotates the distributer arm 62 with it.
