638,410. Spare wheel carriers. PARK, WARD, & CO., Ltd., and WARD, C. W. Oct. 25, 1948, No. 27714. [Class 136 (i)] An automobile spare wheel mounting in which the wheel is carried on its side within the body of the automobile comprises a sector shaped arm A of light metal adapted to be swung about a pivot-bracket B mounted on the body and provided with a series of rollers E which traverse an arcuate track within the body, the track extending from a convenient position for removal or replacement of the wheel to a position in which the wheel will lie within a recess in the body. As shown, the track is in the form of an inclined ramp G and the pivot B<SP>1</SP> of the arm A is mounted on a spring M so that it may rise as the arm is moved up the inclined ramp. The arm A is provided with a dished annular casing C to receive the spare wheel. A spring catch H releasable by a handle I engages with one or other of sockets K, K<SP>1</SP> to lock the mounting in position.
