Abstract

638,365. Measuring thickness. ZELLWEGER AKT. - GES. APPARATE - UND MASCHINENFABRIKEN USTER. April 25, 1947, No. 11150. Convention date, April 29, 1946. [Class 37] The thickness of a textile, e.g. yarn, is measured by feeding it between the plates of a capacitor to vary the frequency of an oscillator. The capacitor comprises a pair of toothed electrodes 12, 13 arranged to form between the teeth a number of parallel capacitors with different electrode spacings suitable to measure different sizes of yarn 16. The capacitor may be enclosed in an electrostatic screen filled with insulating material, Fig. 3 (not shown). The frequency variations are measured by heterodyning the output of the oscillator and passing the beat-frequency currents after amplification to a frequency discriminator and rectifier to produce a D.C. amplitude variation which is indicated by an ammeter, or recording ammeter, Fig. 1 (not shown). The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 shows a detailed circuit of the oscillatorindicator device, Fig. 1, (Cancelled, not shown). This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
