Abstract
638,223. Surgical implanting devices. AMERICAN CYSTOSCOPE MAKERS, Inc. Oct. 22, 1947, No. 28241. Convention date, June 1, 1940. [Class 81(ii)] An implanting device comprises a tubular chamber 22 adapted to accommodate a series of rod-like bodies abutting end to end and intended to be discharged through the forward end of said chamber, a housing 34 at the rear end of the chamber, a plunger 40 extending into the chamber through the housing, a handle 37 carried by said housing and provided with a trigger 38, an intermittent advance mechanism in the housing interposed between the trigger and the plunger for advancing the plunger a pre-determined amount in response to each actuation of the trigger, a sight opening 55 in said housing and indicia carried by said plunger arranged to show through the sight opening the number of bodies contained within the chamber. The forward end of the tubular chamber 22 is bevelled to form a flesh-piercing point 23 and has yieldable convergent wall portions adapted to prevent the escape of the rodlike implant bodies except under deliberate expulsion. The intermittent advance mechanism includes a pawl which co-operates with teeth 41 on the plunger 40, each increment of advance of the plunger being an exact multiple of the length of one of the rod-like bodies.
