Abstract
637,066. Oven stoves. NORTH THAMES GAS BOARD, (formerly GAS LIGHT & COKE CO.)., HAYMAN, R. F., PATRICK, E. A. K., and DINES, F. C. May 26, 1948, No. 14263. [Class 126] [Also in Group XII] A heating oven, suitable for pre-heating moulding material, comprises a plurality of trays mounted to slide in guides into and partly out of a heating chamber, a separate aperture in the oven wall for the passage of each tray, separate closure means for each aperture and means for moving the trays comprising horizontally slidable members operable from the exterior of the oven and inter-engaging projections on said members and beneath each tray, the arrangement being such that each tray may be disengaged from its associated slidable member in the withdrawn position by a tilting movement of the tray about a transverse edge of one of the apertures. In one form, Figs. I and 2, the heating chamber is formed by perforated side plates 4 and a bottom plate 5 extending from the front to the rear wall of a body structure 1 fitted with a row of gas burners 14, the front wall being formed with apertures 11, fitted with gravity-operated closure flaps 12, for the passage of trays 10 slidable in angle runners 13 secured to the plates 4 and further perforated plates 7 defining a passage communicating with a flue 9. A baffle 18 provided with a central dividing flange 19 is positioned below the plate 5, a thermostat 20 controlling the gas supply to the burners being mounted below the lower edge of the latter. Each tray is formed at its inner end with an inclined bottom 21 and a depending flange 29 adapted to engage between a plate 26 and a member 27 with an inclined upper surface 28 mounted on a rod 22 slidable longitudinally in guide holes 23, 24 in the oven walls. This rod is furnished with a handle 25 and is of non- circular section for at least part of its length, one or both sets of guide holes being of similar non-circular section. To remove a tray from the oven, the associated rod is pulled out to a withdrawn position determined by engagement of a stop 30 with the front wall, and the tray is then tilted about the front edge of an aperture 11 to raise the flange 29 clear of the plate 26 and member 27. To charge a tray into the oven, it is pushed in through an aperture 11 until the flange 29 rides up the inclined surface 28 and engages between the plate 26 and member 27, the rod being then pushed in until the plate 26 engages the rear wall of the oven. If desired, the side walls of the trays may converge at their inner ends to facilitate unloading. In a second form, Fig. 4, the heating chamber is bounded by an imperforate wall 31 spaced from the oven side walls to form gas circulation passages 32 communicating with an upper flue. An evaporator tray 34, supplied with liquid from a reservoir in the oven rear wall and heated, if desired, by a separate burner 35, is positioned below and in communication with the heating chamber so that an atmosphere rich in water or other vapour may be maintained therein. In this construction, the inner ends of the rods 22 are supported in channel guides 37 projecting from the rear wall of the oven. The oven is supported by a column 39 carried by feet (not shown), this column and, if desired, one of the feet constituting the gas supply conduit.
