636,982. Moulding reflectors &c. HOLOPHANE, Ltd., and HOLMES, J. G. Dec. 2, 1947, No. 31835. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Groups XI and XXIII] In a method of manufacturing reflectors or refractors, a plate of plastic transparent material with a prismatic surface of flat or slightly curved contour is bent to a final contour, the original shape of the prisms being such that after the distortion due to bending the plate, the prisms have the desired shape. The bending may be produced by moulding under pressure where the transparent material may be reduced to plastic condition to permit deformation. To control the change in shape of the prisms, the deformation may be limited by a support which may be grooved to receive the final section of the prisms, or a flexible metal sheet may remain in contact with the prism during bending. In addition to the prism on one side of the plate a diffusing pattern, comprising ribs or flutes may be provided on the other side or prisms may be provided on both sides which complement one another in redirecting the light. Prisms on one side may cross prisms on the other side at 90 degrees or some other angle (see Group XXIII).
