Abstract

636,713. Extrusion machines for rubber &c. PIRELLI SOC. PER AZIONI. March 2, 1948, No. 6599. Convention date, April 12, 1947. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group II] A machine for compounding rubber &c., comprises a horizontal tubular chamber containing a rotor consisting of a feed worm and an extrusion worm at opposite ends and compounding means at the centre. The rotor 3 rotates in the chamber 2 of the body 1 of the machine. A feed worm 7a feeds materials from a hopper 6 to the central compounding portion of the chamber 2. The central portion 7b of the rotor 3 comprises a series of eccentrically mounted discs set spirally on an axis. The discs may be set face to face or two or more of the discs may have small worms interposed between them. The rubber &c. is squeezed between the periphery of the chamber and the peripheries of the discs. A further extension 7c of the rotor 3 comprises an extrusion worm. The rotor 3 and body 1 may be hollow to allow the circulation of heating or cooling fluid.
