[Class 18] A roll holder comprises a brake member adapted to be operated, to prevent undue rotation of the roll, by the dispensing mechanism when a portion of the material is withdrawn from the roll within the holder. A time stop mechanism also operated by the dispensing mechanism delays further immediate delivery after a length of the roll has been withdrawn. As shown, paper from a roll 25, mounted between plates 3, 4, and totally enclosed by a hinged cover 17, is fed between a measuring roll 29 and a pinch roll 30 for delivery through an opening in the base of the holder, one edge of the opening having a corrugated strip 43 for severing the .length withdrawn. A spur gear 58 mounted on the end of the measuring roll 29 meshes with gear 60 mounted on the end of a shaft that is supported in bearings in the plate 3 and in a U-shaped bracket secured to the plate 3. A stop member 61 is attached to the gear 60 and is adapted to engage a shoulder 80 on a centrally pivoted lever 81 one end of which is pivoted to a link 117 operating a cam plate 110 to press a strip 100 on to the edge of the roll. The other end of the lever 81 is pivotally attached at 83 to a link 84 operating a slide 86 supporting the upper cup 96 of a time stop mechanism. A slotted link 76 is also attached at 83 and engages a pin 74 on the stop member 61. As a length of material is withdrawn by the user the measuring roll 29 is rotated and the gear 60, driven thereby, caused to rotate and operate the link 76 to pull down the slide 86 so as to bring the cup 96 into engagement with a coacting cup 92 of the time stop mechanism. At the same time, the pivoted lever 81 is rotated so that the shoulder 80 is positioned to engage with the stop member 61 and the link 117 is operated to rotate cam 110 to press the plate 100 against the edge of the roll. As the measuring roll is further rotated the stop member 61 engages the shoulder 80 and prevents further delivery, the pivoted lever being held in position by the time stop mechanism and the pin 74 sliding up the slot in the link 76. After a predetermined time the two cups 96 and 92 separate and the slide 86 is urged upwards by a spring 98 attached to the lever 81 thereby causing the shoulder 80 to disengage from the stop member 61 and the cam 110 to release the plate 100. A spring 77, attached to the pin 74, rotates the gear 60 when the stop mechanism becomes disengaged from the shoulder and causes a small amount of the roll to be delivered to enable the user to grasp the end. An emergency feed means adapted to be operated by hand is mounted on the end of the roller 29.
