Abstract

A distributer head for applying coatings to the inner walls of pipe-lines comprises a revolvable body having a plurality of distributer blades disposed substantially radially about the axis thereof, said blades including main portions and replaceable wearing portions aligned with and separable from the main portions, and means for detachably securing the separable portions of the blades to said body. Referring to the drawings, Fig. 1 shows a pipe coating apparatus having a carriage 10, adapted to be propelled through a pipe-line, carrying a hopper 11, feed pipe 12 and screw <PICT:0635096/III/1> <PICT:0635096/III/2> <PICT:0635096/III/3> <PICT:0635096/III/4> conveyer 13 for carrying coating material fro the hopper to the end of the feed pipe. This end carries an annular row of discharge ports 14 in registration with the distributer head. This distributer head (Figs. 2 and 3) comprises a rotor 16 carrying flange 19 to which is attached plate 20 between which and rings 21, 22 are a plurality of distributer blades 23. Radial grooves 24 in the inner face of ring 20 and radial grooves 25 in ring 21 carry the blades 23, these grooves extending from the periphery of the ring to a point short of the inner edge thereof. These blades are serrated so as to break up the material as it centrifugally leaves the blades. Screws 28 and nuts 27 detachably secure the blades to the rings which are detachably joined by screws 29. Removable inner tips 30 constituting continuations of the blades 23 are detachably fitted between the opposing inner sides of ring 20 and ring section 22. This is done by providing in ring 20 an annular groove 31 in which a floating ring 32 is fitted, this floating ring carrying radial grooves 33 adapted to register with grooves 24 of ring 20. Ring section 22 carries corresponding grooves 34 registering with grooves 25 in ring section 21. The inner edge of the rings 20 and 22 and the inner edges of inner tips 30 end short of the outer wall of the ported conduit 12 to provide clearance and the inner edges of these rings are bevelled as at 35 to direct the coating material outwards while the adjoining parts of the tips 30 may be bevelled and chamfered as at 36. The tips 30 are preferably hardened along their inner edge. Fig. 8 shows a modified form of blade in which the body 37 is of steel or similar material while its inner edge carries a wear tip 38 of rubber preferably vulcanized thereto.
