Abstract

634,751. Tubular heat-exchange elements. HUET, A. Nov. 11, 1947, No. 29971. Convention date, Nov. 15, 1946. [Class 64(iii)] Fluid diffusing means within a heat exchanger tube 1 comprises an open-ended member 2 of frusto conical form disposed with its outer surface spaced from the inner surface of the tube wall, the flow of fluid through the space between said surfaces being unobstructed by the member 2, a zone D of decelerated fluid being produced in the vicinity of its downstream end and the configuration of said member and of the body of fluid obtaining in said zone resulting in the production in the fluid stream E flowing between them and the internal surface of the tube, of changes of velocity and pressure of the kind effected by a venturi passage. The member 2 is supported within the tube by radial stays 3 which bear against or are welded to the tube wall. To supplement the action of the member 2, a smaller truncated cone-shaped member 4 may be fitted -at or near the fluid-entry end and coaxial therewith. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the tube 1 is provided externally with tangentially disposed fins 6 180 degrees apart and welded to the tube, the fluid diffusing member 2 being deformed to a substantially elliptical cross-section and disposed with the major axis of the ellipse adjacent the welds. This arrangement is said to produce a more effective transfer of heat at the welded regions where the heat transmitted by the fins is mainly concentrated.
