Abstract
634,546. Sight-testing apparatus. ALLIED INSTRUMENT MANUFACTURERS, Ltd., and STOCKWELL, H. J. Jan. 30, 1948, No. 2831. [Class 97 (i)] In an uphthalmoscope or other eyeobserving instrument in which a number of lenses of different focal length are movable in an endless track to be selectively located at an observation point, each lens is contained in a cell having a portion of larger diameter and a portion of smaller diameter, the latter portion engaging retaining means in the casing, and the casing being so shaped that the larger portions of some at least of the cells protrude therefrom to permit direct driving of the cells by hand around the track. As shown in Fig. 4, the lens C is held in a cell portion B<SP>1</SP> of larger diameter by a smaller diameter portion B<SP>2</SP> which is extended to engage in a groove A<SP>3</SP>, Fig. 2, in an endless track A<SP>2</SP> in the casing A. The casing is cut away at E, E<SP>1</SP> to permit manual access to the larger portions B<SP>1</SP> of some of the cells B. An observation opening, not shown, is located in the casing at the top of the track and the lens in use is held in that position by a spring-pressed pivoted catch F. To allow of use of a greater range of lens powers a plate G, bearing supplementary lenses, is pivoted to the casing to bring such lenses selectively adjacent the track lens at the viewing aperture. The instrument also carries a lamp, condenser lens and a reflector adjacent the viewing aperture to reflect light into the patient's eye. In an alternative, the track groove A<SP>3</SP> may engage a central reduced portion of the lens cell which has outer portions of larger diameter.
