Abstract

632,514. Elevated railways. WEBB CO., J. B. March 20, 1947, No. 7705. Convention date, April 20, 1946. [Class 104 (ii)] In a conveyer system having at least one upwardly inclined section 28 towards which free trolleys travel along a downward slope or slopes 15, a power driven endless chain 16 located within guide tracks 22, 23 adjacent to the inclined section 28 is provided with members which engage co-operating members on the trolleys as the latter approach the incline, and propel the trolleys to the higher level of the track. Fig 3 shows a cross-section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, including an adjustable shaft mounting for a guide sprocket 18 for the portion of the chain 16 at that end. The track 10 and inclined continuation 28 comprise two opposed channel members 27 the lower flanges of which support trolley wheels 13 carrying a trolley bracket 14 extending downwardly between the bottom flanges 11 of the track. The chain tracks 22, 23 likewise consist of pairs of oppositely disposed channel members with bottom flanges providing runways for pairs of wheels 16a journalled at the ends of locking pins 21a at intervals throughout the length of the power chain 16. The chain is of the type consisting of alternately arranged centre links 16b with pairs of side bars 16c pivoted at each end thereof by headed locking pins 21, each centre link and each side bar having an elongated slot at each end. Pusher dogs 24 carried by the chain 16 at intervals along its length extend downwardly between the lower flanges of the chain track 22 and engage between pairs of dogs 26 extending upwardly from the trolley which they overtake adjacent to the bottom of a downwardly inclined portion 29 of track 22. A sprocket 17 at the other end of the chain is driven by a motor 19 through a gear box 20.
