Abstract
632,301. Toy vehicles. CARTNER, J., and JACKSON, J. M. Oct. 14, 1946, No. 30602. [Class 132 (iii)] In a wheeled toy vehicle of the kind having an electric driving motor and running on a guide track having rails through which the current passes, the track wheels are insulated one from the other and are adapted to conduct current from the rails to bearing elements supporting the wheels for rotation, the said bearing elements being connected to the electric motor and insulated from the chassis of the vehicle. The toy may be in the form of a tender adapted to be coupled to a toy locomotive, and comprises an insulating base 10 upon which a small electric motor of the kind described in Specification 632,295, [Group XXXV], is secured. A rotatable transmission member 12 depends from the motor and projects through the base member 10, the free end being located between the wheels 13 of the toy. The contact elements comprise two pieces of thin flat metal 14, 15 bent round opposite longer sides of the base 10 and held in position by the bent over edges 16, 17 of electrically conducting bearing members 18, 19. The wheels are suitably plated to ensure electrical conductivity, and each wheel of a pair is separated from the other by an insulating hub 20. Each wheel is formed with a small axial spindle 21 which is housed in an aperture in the bearing members. An endless rubber band 22 passes round the transmission spindle, round an insulating roller 34 supported in the bearing elements and round the insulating member 20 connecting the front wheels of the tender. A second endless band 23 connects the insulating member of the front pair to that of the rear pair, and is located between a flange 24 formed on the inner surface of the wheels and a flange 25 formed on the insulating members. The body of the tender is insulated from the bearing members by sheet material 28 such as paper. Coupling members may be provided at front and back. The rotation of the transmission spindle 12 is imparted to the insulating hubs by the rubber bands. If desired, both rubber bands may pass round the transmission spindle.
