631,530. Door-operating appliances. DELAWARE ENGINEERING CORPORATION. Jan. 15, 1947, Neo. 1364. Convention date, Jan. 31, 1946. [Class 65 (i)] [Also in Groups XI and XII] The cover for an electric arc furnace is moved upwards and sideways simultaneously by fluid pressure operated means. In a fluid pressure cylinder 12 attached to the furnace 9 is a hollow cylindrical piston 15 carrying a column eye bracket 18 to which is attached firstly the coyer 1 through girders 4 and adjustable fastenings 5 and secondly a shroud 19 with a cam groove 20 co-operating with a roller 17 attached to a collar 16 on said cylinder 12 thus ensuring simultaneous upward and sideways motion of the cover when the piston 15 is moved. The piston 15 itself encloses another fluid operated piston see Fig. 4 (not shown) on top of which is supported a water cooled electrode arm 30 carrying an electrode 27 which is held in its holder by an adjustable clamp as described in Specification 624,657, [Group XI]. The bracket 18 has water cooled compartments 18a and may carry a plurality of electrode rams and supports.
