Abstract

An organic base is reacted with clay to give a product which coats the clay particles. Specified organic bases are amines, quaternary bases or basic dyestuffs, for example, cetyl trimethyl ammonium hydroxide, benzylamine and according to the Provisional Specification auramine lake yellow dye. Such clays are used as rubber fillers, but according to the Provisional Specification they may be used also as a filler for plastic materials, and as an organic adhesive for the coating of paper.ALSO:A filler for rubber, synthetic or natural, comprises clay reacted with an organic base.
