Abstract

628,888. Delivering measured quantities of fluent solid material. JOHANNESSEN, M. K. April 25, 1947, No. 11123. [Class 106(v)] An apparatus for delivering measured quantities of fluent solid material, comprising a measuring cup consisting of a pair of telescopic tubular members 17, 18 arranged below the discharge opening of a filling hopper 22, said measuring cup being closed and opened at the top and bottom ends by knives or plates 9, 10, which are displaceable in a direction transversely to the direction of flow of the material, is characterised in that spring actuated sleeve members 14, 21 bear against the top and bottom ends respectively of said measuring cup and form with said cup a discharge channel for the material and which yield towards or away from each other when said knives or plates 9, 10 are moved into closing position above and below the measuring cup, but which are again brought to bear tightly against the measuring cup, under the action of the springs, when said knives or plates have passed, so that said measuring cup is subject to a certain agitating action by the passage of said knives or plates. The plates or knives 9, 10 which each have a sector shaped opening cut in them, may be formed, as shown in Fig. 2, with a concave leading knife edge 26 at the boundary of the cut out sector. They are mounted on a rotating shaft 1 and are so positioned that when one plate opens one end of the measuring chamber the other plate closes the other end. To adjust the capacity of the measuring chamber the tubular member 18 is moved into or away from the member 17. The member 18, the plate 10 and the discharge spout are all carried by a plate 5 which is moved along the shaft 1 by rotating a nut 28 in which is threaded a sleeve 31 surrounding the shaft 1 and connected to the plate 5.
