628,799. Drilling-machines. YARMAK, J. Oct. 20, 1947, No. 27958. [Class 83 (iii)] A drilling machine for mining coal and the like comprises one or more pairs of tubular drills 11, 12, each pair of which is provided with a screw drill 19 so as to drill one or more pairs of ring-shaped cuts 56, 57. Fig. 7, of relatively large diameter and simultaneously to drill one or more holes 58 of relatively small diameter. The hole 58 is connected to the cuts 56, 57, to enable cuttings from the latter to be readily removed by the drill 19. Compressed air or water may be supplied to the tubular drills to assist in removing cuttings. The drills are rotated in the directions indicated by the arrows by means of toothed gearing enclosed in a casing 16 containing lubricant and operated either directly from an electric or compressed air motor or through a flexible shaft 27. The machine is provided with grips 47, 48, for hand operation. In a modification, Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown), the machine is fed by means of a manually-operated pinion engaging a rack bar carried by a prop supported between the roof and floor of the seam.
