Sept. 16, 1947, No. 25251 [Class 6(ii)] A hedge-cutting machine comprises a support 2, 20, 21, mounted on a tractor 19 and carrying a structure 32 capable of lateral translation across the support, an angularly-adjustable arm 43 being pivoted to the structure 32 and being fitted with an angularly-adjustable cutting disc 86 which is power-driven from the tractor by shafting 61, 66, 70, so that the drive is not interrupted by the adjustment of the cutter. The laterally-adjustable structure 32 comprises girders mounted between rollers 25, 26 on the main frame, the outer end of the arm 43 being suspended by a cable 56 from a winch 55 mounted on the girders 32, and being secured in an adjusted position by a movable bolt 54 mounted on arcuate guide members 49. The girder structure 32 may be traversed across the support by a hand-wheel 36 attached to a drum 37 around which is wound a cable 38 secured at both ends to the structure. The arm 43 carries an angularly-adjustable extension 74 which carries a further angularly-adjustable mounting 81 for the cutter 86. The cutter drive is taken by a belt 89 from a powerdriven pulley 88 on the tractor to a pulley 59 mounted on the main support. This pulley has a square-section hole therethrough in which is freely mounted a square .shaft 61 journalled in bearings 62, 63 on the girder structure 32. The shaft 61 drives the shaft 66 through a universal joint 65 and the drive is continued through joints 69 and 79 and shafts 70 and 80 to the cutter disc. To obviate breakage of the shaft a shearable coupling (Fig. 5, not shown) may be included in the drive.
