Abstract

628,400. Magnetic tests and measurements. WEISSELBERG, A. Sept. 17, 1946, Nos. 27888 and 27889. Convention dates, Oct. 18, 1945. [Class 37] [Also in Groups XIX and XXXVIII] In order to test a magnetic specimen T, the latter is covered by plates 20 of brass or other non-magnetic material and secured to a base 14<SP>11</SP> and the force required to separate a magnet M from the test-piece is measured. The magnet is secured to a pivoted lever 23 and a spring 25 by which the force is applied is tensioned by a wire 26, which may be wound on to a drum 28, and is connected to the tip of a tapered cantilever beam 15 (see Group XIX), the deflection of which is measured by resistance strain-gauges connected in a Wheatstone bridge circuit, preferably including an oscillograph for the purpose of recording the force at the moment of separation of the magnet and test-piece.
