Abstract
628,351. Humidifying air. CUMMINGS, W. W. July 25, 1947, No. 20118. Convention date, Jan. 11, 1940. [Class 55 (ii)] Humidifiers for imparting a very high vapour pressure to a relatively small air stream which on contact with room air distributes the required humidity comprise an inlet 12, air heater 16, a hot water spray nozzle 54 over a reservoir 24 and eliminator passages leading to a fan 74 and outlet 14. A pump 30 delivers water through a gas-heated coil 38 to the heating surfaces of the air heater and thence to the nozzle. Current is supplied to the pump motor under the influence of a humidistat when room humidity is below a selected value, a solenoid 48 opening a gas burner valve 46 which remains open until a predetermined water temperature is reached whereupon a switch 86 opens the solenoid circuit. When the sprayed air temperature is high enough to close a thermostatic switch 92 the fan motor is energized. The air and water heaters may be heated by steam and switches 86, 92, dispensed with.
