Abstract
626,305. Making vehicle bodies. ALUMINIUM FRANCAIS. April 23, 1946, No. 12226. Convention date, April 23, 1945. [Class 83 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXII] All metal automobile vehicle bodies, particularly of aluminium alloy and having a main structure of box-section members, are assembled by building-up a first unit with all the stamped flanged metal members forming the inner wall of the body, similarly, building- up a second unit to form the outer wall, nesting the first unit within the second to form boxsection members with the flanges of the inner and outer units juxtaposed and spot-welding together the flanges of the inner and outer units along the door, window, windshield, roof and luggage compartment openings- The elements A, A<SP>1</SP> forming the interior panels are secured to each other, preferably by spotwelding and the elements B, B<SP>1</SP> of the exterior panels are also secured to each other, preferably by spot-welding, and the first unit is then nested within the second and the flanges a, b spot-welded together. The floor P and roof T are then spot-welded at the flanges p, t respectively. The outer assembly may have one or two longitudinal junction lines L, L<SP>1</SP>, and L1, L<SP>1</SP>1, over the roof and rear skirt, in which are spot-welded the pieces T1 and T<SP>1</SP>1, after the assemblies are welded together. The lines L, Ll &c. may continue over the scuttle or the inner unit nested within the outer, after first opening out the rear panels and to allow of the introduction of the inner parts. Frameless bodies may similarly be made, reinforcing ribs being inserted between and spot-welded to the inner and outer units. Making boats.-The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that boat hulls may be similarly made. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
