Abstract

626,117. Spring suspensions. SPENCER MOULTON & CO., Ltd., G. and MOULTON, A. E. Aug. 14, 1947, No. 22590. [Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXI] In a resilient wheel suspension of the bottom link type for the front wheels of bicycles, motor cycles and the like in which the link bearings are supported in rubber bushes, the rubber bushes are in the forks and the movement of the links under load is resisted by a column of rubber springs. As shown, each bottom link 1 and 2 has a journal 5 projecting outwardly and supported by a rubber bush 6 carried in a case housing 7. The bush 6 is in two halves bonded to split metal sheets, 17 and 18. The housing 7 has an upwardly-projecting socket 9 to take the end of a fork barrel 8 which carries a column of springs 32 between a pressure plate 26 and a follower 31 on a rod 25 movable with the bottom link. The rod 25 passes through the plate 26 and a rubber rebound spring 34 is mounted on the projecting portion. A lever arm 11 is welded to the journal 5 and is pivotally connected to the rod 25 by a transverse pin 12 set in cup-shaped rubber bushes 13, 14 carried in eyes at the lower end of the rod 25.
