Abstract

<PICT:0625542/III/1> <PICT:0625542/III/2> <PICT:0625542/III/3> <PICT:0625542/III/4> An apparatus for lining the inner walls of pipe-lines comprises a conduit communicating with a source of coating material at one end and open at the other, a ported member at the discharge end which can be moved to different radial positions, the ports being of different sizes, and a rotary dispensing head disposed about the ports to receive material therefrom and to direct it by centrifugal force on to the pipe wall. Referring to the drawings, the apparatus comprises a carriage 10 adapted to be propelled through pipe 11 and carrying a feed hopper 12 connected via a conduit 14 including a screw conveyer 15 to a dispensing head 13. At its discharge end the conduit 14 carries an annular row of ports 16 and 17 of different sizes, the larger ports 17 being in line with the riveted parts 18 of the pipe. The dispensing head driven by motor 20 and belt 21, includes radial blades 19 for receiving material from the ports and discharging it. The ports 16 and 17 are preferably formed in tubular section 23 telescopically fitted to and rotatable about conduit 14 so as to be capable of adjustment; pin-and-slot connection 25 limits this adjustment made through handle 26. At the discharge end of conduit 14 is a rotatable device functioning so as to keep the material in rotary motion while the apparatus is working and also to direct the material outwardly through the ports. This device, preferably attached to the front end of screw 15 so as to rotate therewith, consists of a forwardly flaring body 27 whose reduced end is flush with the end of screw 15 and whose forward end is flush with the forward edges of ports 16 and 17. Blades 28 set in notches 29 in body 27 both rotate and cut into the coating material as well as force it forwardly and outwards on to the pipe wall.
