Abstract
625,470. Actuation of switches. JEFFREY MANUFACTURING CO. Feb. 18, 1947, No. 4642. Convention date, Sept. 12, 1945. [Class 38(v)] In a switch for indicating a particular level of material in a bin or container, a diaphragm 12, backed by a disc 33. is connected to a plate 19 pivoted at 20 to a fixed bracket 18. A disc 21, carrying a normally-open mercury switch 26, is adjustably pivoted at 22 to the plate 19, which also carries at 30 an adjustable counterweight 29. The parts 21 and 29 are pre-adjusted, so that the centre of gravity of the pivoted parts lies to the left of a vertical plane through the horizontal axis 20, so as normally to bias the diaphragm outwards. The switch may be arranged vertically (as shown), or horizontally, with suitable adjustment of the parts 21 and 29. The force required to close switch 26 may be adjusted by moving the centre of gravity and by increasing the angle through which the plate 19 must move to close switch 26.
