Abstract
625,174. Moulds for building blocks &c. WILSON, J. M. Jan. 25, 1947, No. 2397. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Groups X and XXXII] A multiple mould for making concrete &c. building blocks of the type having two parts joined together by ties is shown in Fig. 2 (elevation) and Fig. 3 (plan) The two parts 17, 17b are cast one above the other. Each lower part 17b is first cast on the mould base 18, in compartments made by partitions 25 grooved at their ends to engage guides 31 (Fig. 8) fixed to the mould sides 22. Then a floor 30 is placed in the position shown, resting on ledges 27, which are fixed to the mould ends 24, and on a loose cross member 29 resting on blocks 28 fixed to the mould sides, and partitions 26 are put in place to form upper compartments. The floor consists of two parts having zig-zag, curved or other interengaging edges 33 which are cut away to form holes 34. The ties 17a are then passed downwardly through the holes 34 and driven into the concrete into the lower compartments. Finally concrete is cast in the upper compartments. The cut-out parts may be not staggered, as shown, but aligned. The multiple mould comprises eleven divisions, each division moulding four blocks. Each division comprises a base 18, which rests on longitudinal rails 19 having ribs 20, and sides 22 which rest between adjacent bases and are recessed at 23 to fit over the ribs 20. The outer sides 22a also have pins which fit in recesses in the rails to keep them in place. Each end trio or so of divisions is held together by tie-rods 36. Figs. 4 and 6 show a mould for making corner blocks, each division comprising two compartments separated by partitions 45, 46. Each corner block consists of an # -shaped piece 40 joined by three ties 40b to another piece 40a. The part 40 is cast in a space defined in part by the floor 48 and a threepart division plate 41, 41a, 41b. First the part 40a is cast, the parts 41a, 41 being not yet in place, then the horizontal tie 40b is put in place, then the parts 41a, 41, 48, 46, then the vertical ties 40b are driven in, and finally the part 40 is cast. Fig. 1 shows a casting plant. Multiple moulds 13 are arranged alongside a track 12 on which runs a bogie 11 having transverse rails 15 on which runs a hutch 10 containing concrete. The rails 15 have at each end hinged bridge pieces 16 which can be swung down to the position shown to lie on rails 14 resting on the moulds.
