Abstract

624,750. Magnetic dust cores. HATTE, P. L. M. April 22, 1947, No. 10771. Convention date, March 3. [Class 38 (ii)] A magnetic core is made from a mixture of magnetic material such as iron powder and a superpolyamide such as nylon, or a mixture of superpolyamides. The substantially insoluble superpolyamide is suspended in colloidal form in a liquid such as a 4 : 1 mixture of alcohol and water at 250‹ F. and one atmosphere pressure, then cooled and the resulting gel mixed in a heated mixer with the magnetic powder. The mixture is precipitated by cooling, rolled between smooth or fluted rollers, dried, crushed, and moulded in a press. The crushing may be replaced by cutting it with a rotating knife, as it is extruded from a forming machine.
