623,571. Traversed headstock lathes. MANUFACTURE DE MACHINES DU HAUTRHIN SOC. ANON. Aug. 28, 1946, No. 25763. Convention date, Aug. 3, 1939. [Class 83 (iii)] The longitudinal displacement of the headstock of an automatic lathe is controlled by a cam 3 which rotates in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the headstock and acts through two levers 1, 9 arranged in perpendicular planes, the lever 1 transmitting the motion from the cam through a slide 6 to the lever 9. The lever 9, pivoted at 10, has a slide along which a bushing 16 acting on the headstock 17 can be fixed so as to vary the displacement of the latter. The mechanism may be loaded by a spring or a weight to maintain the active components in co-operative contact. In an alternative construction, co-axially-mounted twin cams are used, the resulting profile actuating the slide through a lever having two components pivoted on a common shaft and adjustably connected by a screw.
