[Class 97 (iii)] [Also in Groups XXI, XXXV and XXXVIII] A stabilized radio tracking system, for use in gun-fire control apparatus, comprises a gyro element, a follow-up member positioned by said element, and means for receiving radiant energy from a target, such means being,posi. tioned in accordance with the position of the follow-up member, automatic means being provided which is responsive to the reception of the received energy and which is adapted to direct the gyro element towards the target. When an azimuth torque motor amplifier 46 is actuated as the result of a radio scanner being out of line with the target it operates torque motor 23 mounted about axis C-C on a housing or follow-up member 18. Housing 18 is supported by trunnions in a bracket 33 movable about axis B-B and within the housing is a gimbal ring 26 movable about axis C-C. The gyro 16, which spins about axis A-A, is carried by a frame 25 movable in ring 26 about axis B-B. Actuation of motor 23 causes the gyro to precess about axis B-B and the gyro carries with it, by means of a shaft 39 coincident with its spin axis, a second gimbal ring 35 carrying the armature 55 of an E-transformer type pick-off device 19. The output voltage thereby induced across the conductors 53, 54 actuates an amplifier 21 which causes a servomotor to actuate, through gearing as shown, the housing 18 until armature 51 is restored to its neutral position. Similar means are employed for applying torque to the gyro about axis B-B and for causing the frame 18 to follow the resulting movements of the gyro when the scanner is out of line with the target in elevation.
