Abstract

Sugar solutions having an ash content less than 0.9 per cent are purified by passing them through a number of pairs of ion exchangers, each of which consists of a cation and an anion exchanger, until the pH of the influent to the final anion exchanger is higher than 2.9, and, preferably while the effluent p therefrom has a pH of at least 4. The system includes at least three pairs of exchangers, and is so arranged that any one pair can be disconnected for regeneration while the process is continued in the remaining sets.
