Abstract

621,008. Loom drives; automatic stop-motions. FAYOLLE, M. Feb. 10, 1947, No. 3863. Convention date. Oct. 3, 1946. [Class 142 (i)] [Also in Group XXIV] An automatic stop mechanism for a circular loom comprises an electro-magnet 1, energization of which engages the main driving clutch 20, Fig. 3, and simultaneously releases a brake 22 against spring resistance 3, the energizing circuit including a series .resistor 4, Fig. 2, such as to reduce the magnet current to a value sufficient only to maintain the armature 2 attracted, but insufficient to attract it from the fully released position, which requires a current increase obtained by temporarily shortcircuiting the resistor 4 by a starting button M. During running the starting switch M remains open, and the magnet is energized weakly through the . resistor 4, so that a momentary interruption of the current by automatic stop mechanisms, or by a push-button A, causes, declutching. The clutchbrake magnet 1 is energized through a relay 5, and the automatic stop mechanisms comprise (a) contacts 8 (in series with the clutch-brake magnet 1) opened when a shuttle 7 becomes disconnected from its driver 6, and (b) contacts C (in series with the relay 5) closed by breakage of a thread. Release of the clutch-brake magnet armature 2 also opens a contact 10 releasing the starter 11 of the main driving motor 12 which thus stops automatically on declutching. In the clutch-brake combination shown in Fig. 3, energization of .the winding 1 attracts directly, or through a lever, the non-rotary armature 2 against spring-resistance 3, drawing it away from an axiallyfixed brake disc 22, fast on a driven shaft 18, and a screw-adjustable abutment 25 on the armature 2 simultaneously releases an internal clutch-withdrawal rod 26, allowing a spring 19 to press a freely-mounted driving pulley 15 axially into clutch-engagement with an axially-fixed clutch-cone 20 fast on the driven shaft 18.
