620,486. Elastic bands for garments. FAULTLESS MANUFACTURING CO. Jan. 23, 1946, No. 2221. Convention date, June 12, 1940. [Class 141] An elastic, supporting band for a garment comprises a strip 1 of stretchable textile material folded around the edges of a flat strip 7 of sheet rubber to form a sheath, the inturned hems 2 and 4 of which approach each other without meeting. The sheathed rubber strip is sewn in stretched condition to a base of textile material 6 non-stretchable in the direction of the width, by a plurality of rows of stitches 8, 9, 10 and 11 which form in the sheath and rubber strip, arched cushions 13, 14, 15 on contraction of the stretched parts of the band. The base material 6 may comprise the edge of a garment having a narrow inturned hem through which at least one of the rows of stitches passes, or the band together with the base of textile material may be sewn to the edge of the garment in like manner. Where an elastic fabric is used for the garment, elastic stitching for the band is preferable. Specification 477,062 is referred to.
