390,537. Supporting garments at the waist line. LIND, A. A., 31, Helena Street, and BEST, J. D., 27, Princes Street, both in Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand. Aug. 13, 1931, No. 22884. [Class 141.] A waistband for garments has elastic portions separated by nonstretchable portions, the elastic sections being secured in a stretched condition to the waistband. The non-stretchable parts may be made from separate inelastic material, or may be made by anchoring down by stitches part of the elastic material so as to make it unstretchable. The band may be in a sheath in the garment. As shown in Fig. 1, the waistband is manufactured for attachment to a garment as shown in Fig. 3, and comprises a strip of canvas 1, horsehair fabric 2, and a housing 4 stitched together. Elastic strips 3 are disposed between the housing and the horsehair fabric and are attached to inelastic strips 3E. The elastic strips are fastened at their ends 3B to the waistband, the inelastic strips serving to hold the elastic strips in a stretched condition during the sewing operation.
