Abstract

620,426. Firearms. BROWN, H. R. S. Oct. 22, 1946, No. 31390. [Class 119] At the rear of the barrel 8 of a rifle and projecting rearwardly there is a sleeve or guide 9 which encloses the end 11 of the breech-bolt, the sleeve or guide being secured in position by the action of screwing the barrel into a mounting socket 7 and being slotted for feeding and ejecting cartridges. In the construction shown, the sleeve 9 is formed with a flange 10 by which it is held in place when the barrel is screwed home. The front end of the sleeve is recessed for the reception of a washer 16 which receives the cartridge 15 and which is apertured for the reception of the extractor 19. The sleeve may have a single slot 12 for the feeding and ejection of the rounds, or, alternatively, a lower and a side slot may be provided respectively for feeding and ejection purposes. The sleeve guides the head 11 of the breech-bolt which may be made by shortening the existing bolt of a rifle, boring out the part 21 to provide more room for the mainspring, and providing in the part 21 a threaded portion to take the head 11. The latter contains an eccentrically mounted firing pin, the extractor 19 and an ejector 26.
