Abstract
619,469. Glass manufacture. WALLE, G. VAN DE., WALLE, E. VAN DE., and BONNEFOY, E. Dec. 12, 1946, No. 36685. [Class 56] In the feeding of gobs of glass to a forming machine from the forehearth of a furnace 1 by means of a plunger 5, the rotation of the member 8 which supports the plunger produces, through a cam 12 and follower 11, an axial reciprocation of the plunger and also, through a cam 21, roller 24 and crank arms 27, actuates the cutters 29 severing the gob. To permit replacement of the lining 2 of the discharge orifice 3 without emptying the furnace, a tubular shield 36 surrounding the plunger may be lowered into engagement with a sleeve 4 surrounding the lining 2.
