[Class 97 (i)] An objective consists of four elements alternately positive and negative with a positive lens at the front and the last two lenses closest together has the refractive indices N, the dispersive indices V, and the focal lengths f, and the radii of curvature R of the lens elements each numbered by subscripts in order from front to rear within the following limits : 1.68 # N1 # 1.95, 1.60 # N2 # 1.90, 0.05 # N1 - N2 # .30, 1.68 # N3 # 1.95, 0.14 # N3 - N4 # 0.35, 0.56V1 # V2 # 0.72V1, 0.75V3 # V4 # 0.95V3, 4.5 # F(1/f1+1/f3) # 4.9, 3.9 # - F(1/f2+ 1/f4) # 4.3, 1.25F # R2##, .28F # R4 # .5F, .28F # - R4 # .50F, .28F # - R6 # .5F, .28F # - R7 # .5F, where F is the focal length of the objective and the + and - values of the radii indicate surfaces respectively convex and concave to the front.
