Abstract

617,568. Magazine gramophones. FELLINGA, G. Oct. 7, 1946, No. 29897. Convention date, March 7, 1939. [Class 40 (ii)] In a magazine gramophone of the type in which records are fed edgeways from a magazine adjacent to the turntable, means are provided for playing both sides of the records comprising an invertable magazine 51 into which the record 63 on the turntable 23 is pushed by a hook ended arm 35, and a second similar arm 36 which pushes the lowermost record 67 from the magazine 51 to the turntable 23 after the magazine 51 has been inverted, characterised in that the magazine 51 is provided with a member 61 beneath which the lowermost record 67 slides during invertion in order that it may be separated from the other records so that engagement by the hook-ended arm 36 is facilitated. When the record-changing operation is initiated, in a known manner, by the pick-up reaching the end of the record, a motor 2, which drives a shaft 12, Figs. 2 and 3, in a counterclockwise direction, is switched on, The shaft 12 is provided with arms 14, 24 and an eccentric member 37 which are shown in their initial positions in Figs. 2 and 3. During a record-changing operation, the arm 14 controls the lifting and lowering of the turntable 23 and turntable motor 21 by means of a lever 15, while the eccentric member 37, which is surrounded by a strap 38 connected to a slotted bar 39, serves to invert and return the magazine 51 through the medium of a toothed quadrant 42, and controls the movements of the pick-up arm 47 by means of a rod 46. The arm 24 controls the movements of the hook-ended arms 35, 36 by means of the slotted bar 26, lever 27 and shaft 29. Connected to lever 27 is a spring leaf-member 32 which registers with stops 33, 34 and causes the hook-ended arms 35, 36 to be withdrawn from contact with the records 63, 67 respectively after record movements have been made by them. In the initial position of the magazine 51 the records rest upon members 59 and beneath a bar 57. When the record-changing operation has commenced, the turntable is lowered, and the record 63 rests upon bearers 64, 65. The arms 35, 36 are then rotated clockwise so that the record 63 is pushed over the lugs 58 on the magazine 51 and beneath the bar 57. The magazine 51 is then inverted in a counterclockwise direction, during which the records rest against the member 61 with the exception of the lowermost record 67 which becomes separated from the other records as shown in Fig. 6. The arms 35, 36 are then moved counterclockwise so that the hookended arm 36 pushes the record 63 up the ramp 69 and the curved ends of the bearers 64, 65 to rest in a position immediately above the turntable 23, which is then re-elevated to the playing position, the pick-up arm 47 having meanwhile been restored to the initial playing position by the rod 46.
