Abstract

616,649. Earth scrapers. RUSTONBUCYRUS, Ltd. Sept. 17, 1946, No. 27821. Convention date, Dec. 20, 1945. [Class 68 (i)] An earth scraper comprises a rear scraper bowl 26 of small capacity which empties into a front apron 24, the filling and emptying of the bowl being repeated until the front apron is filled. The bowl 26 and front apron 24 are pivotally secured at 25 and 23 between side plates 13 which are interconnected by crossbraces 14, 15 and 16 and supported by a tractor 11 and at the rear by a wheeled frame. The pivots 25 of the bowl are in front of and above a digging blade' 17 attached to the brace 16. Raising and lowering of the side plates from and to a digging position is performed by a winch hauling on a cable 30 which is dead-ended at 37 on the bowl so permanently biassing the bowl to return from an emptying position. The bowl on filling is rotated about the pivots 25 by a winch 27, cable 42 and a segmental chain 45 so discharging the. load on to the apron. The bowl is refilled and the cycle repeated until the apron is filled when the side plates 13 are raised and with the bowl, apron, brace 16 and the blade form a container in which the earth is transported. The apron is then raised by a winch 27 and cable 38 so allowing the earth to discharge. The blade 17 may be secured to the bowl.
