Abstract

616,246. Mechanical scanning arrangements. ROWELL, J. W. March 16, 1944, No. 4932. [Class 40 (iii)] Scanning means for television or facsimile or for use as a light chopper comprises a pair of discs 100, 101, which are mounted about spaced axes 150, 151 and rotated in opposite directions, the disc 100 having inclined rows of holes or slots such as 1 to 36 and the disc 101 having correspondingly numbered rows of holes or slots disposed in spiral formation, so that, as the discs rotate, the intersections of the slots or lines of holes in the two discs scan an area lying about the line joining the axes, the direction of scan being parallel to that line. To manufacture discs, a master disc 100 is employed with a suitable straight-edge guide for forming the holes or slots in a master disc 101, and the two master discs may be copied photographically. The rows of holes or slots in the disc 101 are preferably cut so as to produce interlaced scanning, the lines being scanned in the order 1, 3, 2, 4, 6, 5 &c.
