Abstract
An antibiotic preparation is manufactured, in the form of its ammonium salt, by treating lactic aldehyde with cystine (the latter being preferably in slight excess over a proportion of 1 mol. thereof to 2 mols. of the aldehyde) with the addition of ammonia until all the cystine dissolves, allowing the resulting solution to stand at a moderate temperature in a closed receptacle, allowing excess ammonia to evaporate, thereby causing precipitation of the excess cystine, filtering, freeze-drying the filtrate in vacuo and powdering the product.
