[Class 87(i)] [Also in Group V] A hollow block of ceramic or similar material, formed by extrusion through a die and provided with grooves to facilitate splitting it into a particular number of small facing plaques, has at least one internal partition for reducing distortion during the drying of the block which follows extrusion, which partition is as large as and of similar shape to those of the block sides intended to produce plaques, so as to produce one or more additional plaques when the block is split up. Fig. 1 shows a block provided with two partitions 5, 5 which form plaques D, D<1> Fig. 2, additional to the plaques A, B, C, A<1>, B<1>, C<1>, formed from the sides of the block. The portions 6, 6 which connect the sides 2, 4 with the partitions 5, 5, and the other pieces of the block not shown in Fig. 2, are discarded when the block is split up. The plaques A, A<1> &c. are formed with dovetailed grooves 10, 10 &c. and the surfaces e, g, e<1>, g<1>, &c., at which the plaques were severed from the blocks are disposed away from those edges of the plaques that are to be juxtaposed when the plaques are assembled in use. For supporting the blocks on a flat surface during drying the surface 3 is provided with ribs 3a. An alternative construction is described in which the partitions 5, 5 are formed parallel with the sides 2, 4, and the block may be split into fourteen plaques.
