Abstract

613,375. Washing granular materials. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and RABONE, P. June 19, 1946, No. 18428. [Class 82(ii)] In a concentrating table for concentrating ores by an agglomeration flotation process of the kind including a deck 2 provided with a plurality of longitudinal channels 3 means for imparting reciprocating motion to the deck in the direction of the channels and means 6 for supplying a liquid, e.g. water to one side of the deckthe deck being slightly tilted downwards in the direction of flow of the liquid, at least one channel at or towards the upper side of the deck is provided with at least one baffle 7. The baffle (s) may completely block the channel(s) and may also extend above the top of the channel(s), (see Fig. 3, not shown). Preferably all the channels except one or two at the upper and/or lower sides 10, 11, are each provided with a plurality of spaced baffles arranged in a series of transverse lines 8 generally parallel to the resultant direction of flow of the liquid across the table, the liquid being supplied between said transverse lines of baffles. In use, ore (e.g., iron ore and barytes) is fed at 2 after treatment with a conditioning agent such as " Lorol " (R.T.M.), oleic acid and heavy fuel oil, the ore being carried along the channels 3 and discharged into trough 5. whilst the barytes being water-repellant is floated over the riffles by the liquid stream and discharged into trough 13. The baffles 7 obstruct the forward motion of the ore causing it to pile up and get washed over into adjacent channels, so that much of it traverses the table transversely as well as longitudinally. If the lines 8 of baffles extend substantially the whole length of the deck, ore may be fed to the area 12 extending over a considerable portion of the length of the deck, this resulting in an increase in the quantity of ore treatable in a given time. Specification 613,376 is referred to.
