Abstract
612,142. Glass. GAS LIGHT & COKE CO., and MORCOM, A. R. May 9, 1946, No. 14093. Drawings to Specification. [Class 56] [Also in Group XXXVI] An iron-free glass containing samarium up to 15 per cent and preferably 6-7 per cent added as oxide or carbonate, is melted with such a proportion of ordinary diamagnetic soda glass as to give a glass which is magnetically neutral. The glass may comprise 21 parts by weight of samarium oxide, 200 parts of pure silica, 16 parts of borax, 3 parts of alumina, 4¢ parts of magnesia, 30 parts of chalk, 69 parts of sodium carbonate and 9 parts of potassium carbonate melted together at 1300‹ C., then crushed and melted with diamagnetic glass and formed into rods.
