Abstract
610,837. Protective cut-out systems. COMPAGNIE ELECTRO-MECANIQUE. Dec. 12, 1945, No. 33701. Convention date, June 30, 1943. [Class 38 (v)] In a three-phase protective arrangement wherein only the switch in a faulty phase is actuated, the rectified alternating voltages between each phase and earth (represented in the Figures by batteries e1 ... e3) are connected in series with rectifiers R1 .. : R3, in parallel with a potentiometer PA partly shunted by a condenser CA. If one phase fails, the others feed it in the reverse direction, thereby creating a voltage across the appropriate rectifier, this voltage being used to operate the release mechanism. If two phases fail, voltages appear across the two rectifiers, and if all three fail, the condenser CA feeds all three, thereby setting up a voltage across each rectifier. In Fig. 2, a point ED on the potentiometer PA is connected by rectifiers R<1>1 ... R<1>3 to the grids of gas tubes L1 ... L3 controlling the release valves V1 ... V3. A battery Eo provides a bias against operation of the tubes L1 ... L3 and is normally assisted by the potentiometer volt-drop eD. If a fault occurs, say in phase 3, voltage e3 drops and current from the other sources e1, e2 flows from ED via R<1>3 to the grid of tube L3, so avoiding the bias eD, but the bias eo is only wiped out, to produce tripping, on internal fault, when a directional control impulse is received via the transformer T.
