Abstract
<PICT:0610421/III/1> The temperature of exothermic vapour-phase catalytic reactions is controlled by introducing a liquid through tubes 6 on to layers of distributing means 5 so that it vaporizes before coming into contact with the catalyst beds 4. The distributing means may comprise Raschig rings, sieve plates, or bubble-cap trays, on to which the liquid is spread by means of plates 7 or by spraying. The volumes of the catalyst beds may increase in the direction of gas flow. Reference is made to the introduction of liquid butane during the isomerization of butane using a metal halide catalyst.
