Abstract

609,768. Drying grass. GOODALL. C. March 21, 1946, Nos. 8800, 9985 and 15835. [Class 34(ii)] Material to be dried is fed into hopper c and compressed in chamber a by a piston d reciprocated by a crank pin g and link f. A heating medium is circulated round the jacket b surrounding the compression chamber a. The discharge end of the compression chamber is fitted with a perforated plate j which may also be reciprocated to squeeze moisture from the material on discharge. In a modified form of apparatus, shown in Fig. 4, the material is fed through the compression chamber by a screw conveyer s, which may have a decreasing pitch, to a discharge orifice provided with tines r through which the material is forced on discharge. Moisture squeezed out of the material is collected in a trough g.
